TIFR Entrance Exam Details

TIFR is a National Centre of the Government of India, under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy, as well as a deemed University awarding degrees for master's and doctoral programs.

The Institute was founded in 1945 with support from the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust under the vision of Dr. Homi Bhabha.

At TIFR, basic research in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science and science education is carried. Main campus is located in Mumbai, with centres at Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Since 2002, TIFR became a deemed University under the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2002 and therefore awards its own PhD degree. The university was reviewed in 2016 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and given a grade A+.

Biology

The TIFR Nationwide Entrance Examination (GS2020) for Biology is also called the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS)

All participating institutions use the result from this examination as a part of their admission process. Students need to apply separately to each JGEEBILS participating institution.
